Update: Police say a woman driving a '91 Toyota was killed during an accident that caused both directions of Interstate 10 to shut down to one lane Wednesday, Aug. 31. The woman was driving northbound in I-10 when she came to a stop at the top of the College Street overpass. Her vehicle was struck from behind by a Dodge pickup going at full speed and she was thrown from the vehicle over the median and into oncoming traffic.

Quick thinking by an Orange police officer led to the arrest of two suspects believed to be part of a check forgery ring, possibly based in Houston.

Ralph Evans, commonly known as Quanell X, is pushing for the removal of Judge Layne Walker after what he called excessive sentences for white, black and minority defendants.

Evans, who called Walker a racist for his sentencing of minority offenders, held a small rally in front of Walker’s courtroom Friday, Aug. 19.

After a nationwide search and sifting through dozens of candidates, a committee helping to find a new police chief for the Beaumont Police Department has unanimously decided to endorse a hometown favorite.

Jimmy Singletary, who currently serves in the position of major, overseeing the CID, Warrants and SWAT divisions at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, will be tapped to replace outgoing chief Frank Coffin, who leaves at the end of September.

A family dispute left one man with multiple stab wounds Wednesday afternoon, according to the Beaumont Police.

The skirmish occurred in the 1000 block of Georgia. The victim was taken to the hospital with "several" stab wounds to his upper arm. The injuries are not life threatening and the incident remains under investigation.
