An investigative effort between the Port Arthur Police Department and the Texas Rangers resulted in a break in a cold case more than three decades old. 

Jefferson County District Attorney Bob Wortham announced the arrest of Daniel Andrew MacGinnis for the 1988 murder of Patricia Ann Jacobs on Aug. 27.

The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Old Champion Road and Highway 62 on Aug. 26, at about 5:30 a.m. The crash involved a commercial motor veihcle.

On Aug. 25, at about 11:45 a.m., the Vidor Police Department received a call regarding two aggressive dogs in the 500 block fo Alamo. The caller advised that the two animals were in his yard acting in an aggressive manner.

At about 5 p.m. on Aug. 26, officers with the Port Arthur Police Department were dispatched to Port Arthur Park Apartments, located at 1348 Jefferson Drive, in reference to a robbery that had just occurred.

When they arrived, officers discovered a 30-year-old male Port Arthur resident had been robbed at gunpoint and the suspect had fled the area on foot. Officers were able to develop and locate a suspect. The 19-year-old Port Arthur man was transported to the Port Arthur Police Department where he was interviewed by detectives regarding the case.

John Virden Lewis

Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll reports that officers have identified a deceased man found in a canal as that of 47-year-old John Virden Lewis of Vidor.          

Carroll reports that Lewis was found Tuesday, Aug. 20, at approximately 5:37 p.m., when the Vidor Police Department received a call from an individual in reference to a body floating in the canal near S. Main and Greathouse Road. 

Justice of the Peace Joy Dubose-Simonton ordered an autopsy. Aug. 23, Carroll reported that Lewis’ tentative cause of death is drowning.
