A 40-year-old Houston man has been convicted of drug trafficking and money laundering violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown Dec. 4.

John D. Leontaritis, owner and operator of Vanderhall Exotics of Houston, and former owner operator of Global Motorcars of Houston, car dealerships that specialize in exotic, luxury automobiles, was found guilty by a jury Dec. 4 following a six-day trial before U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

Many people in the Beaumont community worry about where their next meal will come from. LongHorn Steakhouse is working to give those in need some relief. Every week, the LongHorn Steakhouse in Beaumont gathers unused, surplus food and prepares it for donation to Some Other Place.

Items like steak, fish, potatoes, honey wheat bread and vegetables are donated.

An unsuccessful “smash and grab” is being investigated after a pick up truck backed into the doors of a Walgreens on the corner of College and 11th around 5 a.m. on Nov. 30. 

According to Beaumont Police, the unsuccessful crime involved multiple suspects who are suspected of trying to rob the location of its ATM by making entry through the collision. The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived.

A 41-year-old, male gunshot victim was pronounced deceased the early morning of Sunday, Dec. 3, according to a press release from Port Arthur Police Department.

The victim was found after Port Arthur Police responded to the 400 block of Procter Street in reference to a shooting. After arriving they found the victim in the 400 block of Fort Worth Avenue, from there he was transported to The Southeast Texas Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased due to his injuries. Port Arthur Police Detectives are currently handling the investigation.

Saturday, Dec. 1, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Deputies were called to assist a game warden who had encountered a suspicious male near McFaddin Beach. When the game warden approached the male, he fled in his vehicle. The game warden later located his vehicle near the waters edge and saw the man flee into the water. He was last seen approximately 200 yards out in the surf. JCSO Marine Unit Deputies responded to the scene as well as the JCSO helicopter. Attempts to locate the male in the water were unsuccessful.
