A wreck in Hardin County resulted in two injuries and shut down the northbound lanes of US 96 at Village Creek for a short time on Jan. 8, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Stephanie Davis reports.

The swift action of Beaumont Police officers led to three arrests and the recovery of a stolen vehicle on Jan. 7, reports the Beaumont Police Department.

According to a news release from BPD, shortly after their shift began, officers in Beaumont’s north end were patrolling in the 5000 block of Helbig Road. As they were patrolling, officers identified a vehicle that had been reported stolen. Patrol officers found the vehicle to be occupied by three individuals, one of whom was a suspect in several violent crimes.


Omar Faraj Saeed Al Hardan, 24, a Palestinian born in Iraq, has been charged in a three-count indictment alleging that he attempted to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a designated foreign terrorist organization.

Baptist Hospital pediatric patients enjoy the hospital’s new Shrek pinball machi

Project Pinball, a nonprofit organization that places pinball machines in children’s hospitals across the nation, donated a new Shrek pinball machine to Baptist Hospital in Beaumont on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015. The machine was placed in the Teen Room in the Pediatric Unit of the hospital.

Prosecutors were seeking the forfeiture of Briscoe’s Jasper home.

In March 2015, The Examiner first detailed charges filed against a Southeast Texas tax preparer in federal court alleging he fraudulently filed tax returns with the IRS claiming education credits for inmates of the Jefferson County Jail for at least three years before his scheme against taxpayers was brought to light.
