Evolution Academy hosted an event to spotlight the benefit of alt education.

Jefferson County Commissioners and County Judge Jeff Branick issued a proclamation declaring the week of Jan. 22-28 to be School Choice Week because, according to the supporting document declaring the special designation, “all children in Jefferson County should have access to the highest-quality education possible.” 

The elected leaders believe the topic needs to be discussed in an effort to “raise awareness of the need for effective educational options.”


The organist at Temple Emanuel did not see anything suspicious on the afternoon of Jan. 20, but when the vocalist came back shortly afterward, there was a broken window in the stairwell leading down to the sanctuary, Temple President Allison Nathan Getz explained.

This is the fourth time that Temple Emanuel has been subject to vandalism in two months, Getz said.


Four cadets training as first responders received recognition and tuition scholarships from the Officer Bryan Hebert Memorial Foundation for their education at the Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) Regional Police Academy.

Scholarships are awarded to qualified candidates seeking a career in law enforcement.

The Officer Bryan Hebert Memorial Scholarship is given in memory of Beaumont Police Officer Bryan Mitchell Hebert, who was killed in the line of duty on Friday, July 8, 2011.
