Education First Federal Credit Union named English teacher Nadria Turner of Port Arthur Memorial 9th Grade Academy the recipient of its Golden Apple Educator Award for the month of May. Memorial 9th Grade Academy, an offshoot of Port Arthur Memorial High School, was created in 2011 and serves the culturally diverse population of students from Abraham Lincoln and Thomas Jefferson Middle Schools.

Tuesday, May 26, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church distributed checks to 15 local nonprofit organizations that were awarded grants from the proceeds of the church’s annual fundraising efforts.

Police in Orange are investigating a shooting that claimed one man's life and injured another, reports the Orange Police Department.

Keith McLaughlin of Groves was arrested when police found 72 grams of meth.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Rod Carroll, a Groves man is now behind bars after he was caught in possession of 72 grams of meth on Monday, June 1.

The find was the result of the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force executing a search and arrest warrant in the 6200 block of Monroe Street in Groves, Carroll explained. During a search of the residence, 72 grams of methamphetamine was located.
