On Wednesday, April 6, at about 6:30 p.m., the Beaumont Police Department received a call from a 28-year-old Hispanic male who said he was robbed. He was at the washateria on Pinkston in Beaumont when he said he was pulled into a silver 4-door Buick Century and a black handgun was placed to his head. 

The victim said the black male with the gun said to him "you know what time it is." Two of the black male suspects took the keys to the victim's vehicle and left. A third suspect left in the perpetrators' car.

According to information from the Orange Police Department, on Wednesday, April 6, an arrest warrant was obtained for the suspect in the April 5 attempted murder case of 51-year-old Sylvia Vaughns.

Vaughns, who was transported to UTMB in Galveston by helicopter due to the severity of her injuries, was still recovering in the island hospital at press time and investigators say they are searching for the victim’s grandson as the aggressor responsible for her life threatening injuries.

At the April 5 meeting of the Bridge City Council, Mayor Kirk Roccaforte announced the city will be foregoing elections this year, as all the candidates up for re-election are unopposed.

According to Bridge City attorney Paul Fukuda, Place 1 representative Kevin Mott, Place 3 representative Robert Simonton and Place 5 representative Richard Savoy were all uncontested in their bids for office, and the city election is thereby unnecessary.

Former Beaumont City Councilwoman Bobbie J. Patterson is now spearheading a drive she calls “Operation One Vote,” which is an outreach mission encouraging citizens to register to vote and to actually go to the polls and cast a ballot in coming elections.

In conjunction with a host of other entities, the group is sponsoring a “Meet-the-Candidates Forum & Voter Registration Drive,” which is scheduled for Thursday, April 7, at 7 p.m. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Hall located at 3390 Sarah Street in Beaumont.
