City of Orange elected representatives accepted recommendation to cancel elections for City Council Member District 2, At Large Council Member Place 5 and At Large Council Member Place 6 on April 12. The Council decided to call off the elction of those positions since all three races are uncontested. The unopposed candidates are City Council Member District 2, Cullin Smith; At Large Council Member Place 5, Bill Mello; and At Large Council Member Place 6, Charles Guillory.

UPDATE: The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received a call yesterday (April 12) evening from an anonymous tipster that Shane Leger was in the Deridder, La., area. Deputies with JCSO's warrant division proceeded to Deridder and teamed up with the Beauregard Parish Sheriff's Office. Working with information from the tipster, Leger was seen leaving a location in a vehicle and was taken into custody without incident following a traffic stop by BPSO.

Friends, family and co-workers of Theresa Fillyaw gathered Wednesday, April 6, to honor her memory by dedicating a tree in Legacy Park; a project of the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Education Foundation, Inc., to honor those who are or have been affiliated with LC-M schools. Theresa taught at Little Cypress Elementary from 2005 to 2007. In her comments to those attending the ceremony, Dr. Pauline Hargrove, LC-M Superintendent emphasized that although there for a short time, Theresa made an enormous impact on the students and staff with whom she worked.

Port Arthur Police are looking for three black males who robbed the Mini Mart at 3453 25th St. in Port Arthur Sunday evening.

According to Sgt. J. Lloyd with the PAPD, the three males entered the store around 8:45 Sunday evening, all three were wearing ski masks, they displayed chrome handguns and demanded money. They made off with an undetermined amount of money before fleeing the scene on foot.

A K-9 tracking dog was used when officers arrived, however the canine came up with noting. The robbery remains under investigation.

Beaumont police officers near Frint and Fannett Road observed a car speed by driving recklessly Sunday, April 11, at almost midnight. The driver turned onto Fannett Road and headed west as officers tried to catch up. The car then took a turn south on a private drive just outside the city limits.
