Former Beaumont City Councilwoman Bobbie J. Patterson is now spearheading a drive she calls “Operation One Vote,” which is an outreach mission encouraging citizens to register to vote and to actually go to the polls and cast a ballot in coming elections.

In conjunction with a host of other entities, the group is sponsoring a “Meet-the-Candidates Forum & Voter Registration Drive,” which is scheduled for Thursday, April 7, at 7 p.m. at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Hall located at 3390 Sarah Street in Beaumont.

A 35-year-old Stone Mountain, Ga., man has been sentenced to federal prison for drug violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney John M. Bales.

Marvin "Red" Smith Jr. pleaded guilty Nov. 4, 2010, to being involved in a conspiracy to distribute marijuana and was sentenced to 100 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Marcia Crone on April 4.

UPDATE: Vinh Thana Le of Groves has been identified as the male victim in Monday night's murder-suicide, Port Arthur Police Sgt. Scott Gaspard released in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

34-year old Anna Tran is dead and so is a 52-year-old male friend of hers after what Port Arthur Police believe is a murder-suicide.

According to Sgt. Scott Gaspard of the PAPD, Port Arthur Police were called to Tran's house in the 3400 block of 8th St. around 10 pm last night after Tran's sister discovered the bodies in the house by looking through the window.
