Jonathan Matthew Torres

A 40-year-old Beaumont man has been indicted and charged with federal violations in the Eastern District of Texas announced U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown on June 6.

Jonathan Matthew Torres was indicted by a federal grand jury and charged with use of an explosive to damage property, possession of an unregistered destructive device, and mailing a threatening communication.


Police in Beaumont are currently investigating the second fatal shooting on June 7, this one occurring at the Cypress Bend Apartments.

Beaumont Police Department Officer Cody Guedry reports that officers responded to the apartments, located at 1450 N. Major Drive in Beaumont, at nearly 10 p.m. Thursday night and arrived to find a victim on a stairwell in the apartment complex. The victim was non-responsive and had multiple gunshot wounds to the upper chest area. Beaumont EMS was on the scene and determined that the victim was deceased.


Beaumont Police have begun investigating a homicide at the Concord Manor Apartments Thursday, June 7.

The investigation follows a report to Beaumont Police that around 9:20 a.m., 24-year-old Beaumont man, Yasin Jones arrived at St. Elizabeth Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound, before passing away. The police received information that the homicide could have occurred in the 5600 block of Concord. 

Next of kin have been notified.

Charlene Fertitta Busceme

Charlene Fertitta Busceme, 87, of Beaumont, died Saturday, June 2, 2018. She was born February 16, 1931, to Josephine and Charles Fertitta.


Police in Jasper arrested a 26-year-old man for first-degree felony arson June 4 after they say he intentionally set fire to the residence he shared with his grandmother, who, at the time of this report, remained in critical condition at UTMB Galveston due to smoke inhalation.
