A truck drove into a canal on Turner Road in Jefferson County on Wednesday, Dec. 7 around 8:15 p.m., DPS PIO Stephanie Davis said in a release.

The "1997 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on Turner Road" when the driver left the roadway, Davis said, but "the occupants were able to safely get out of the submerged vehicle."

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Jazz Band is hosting “Silent Night, Jazzy Night!” a silent auction and dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at First Baptist Church Mauriceville, 11540 Texas Highway 12. Tickets are $20 per person and must be purchased in advance.

Brian Sattler, director of public relations at Lamar University since 1989 and resident of Bridge City, was honored with the university’s 2016 Julie & Ben Rogers Community Service Award at a Dec. 6 program in the University Event Center of the Mary and John Gray Library.

The Rogers family established the award in 1979 to encourage Lamar University faculty and staff to volunteer their service and talents to the community. The Lamar University Foundation maintains the endowment that provides for the award.

Police in Vidor arrested two suspects on suspicion of public intoxication and other charges after a customer at a local Taco Bell told dispatch the parties had been inside the business "making a butt of themselves" and disturbing patrons Dec. 7, reports the Vidor Police Department (VPD).
