Albert Nolen

Sold-out concert … Local country singer star Tracy Byrd and band Book of Days were a huge draw for our fair city last Friday evening, July 20. The Julie Rogers Theatre was packed and guests seem to enjoy themselves thoroughly with both of the musical entertainers. In the audience were Marci and George Brown, Dona Johnson, Elizabeth Waddill, Mary Jane Benning, Doug Fair, Stephanie and Eric Flatten, Eric Meadows, and Becky and Jerry Conn in from Austin, to name a few.

So tasty … Sponsoring and supporting congregations of A Tasting for Some Other Place and other supporters of Some Other place will each host a booth and provide “tastings” of favorite recipes to ticket holders Tuesday, Aug. 21, from 5-7 pm at the Beaumont Civic Center. Over 50 booths will offer foods ranging from shrimp, stuffed peppers, St. Mark’s famous chili to ice cream and strawberry short cake. Tickets are $10 a person and are available at Some Other Place, through participating congregations and booth sponsors and at Jason’s Deli in Gateway and on Dowlen Road. Entertainment will be provided by The Mid-Life Crisis Band, a 16-year tradition. Again this year, a shuttle service will be provided. Parking is free and available at all city of Beamont parking lots as well as all downtown churches, with a free shuttle beginning at 4:30 p.m. and running until 7 p.m. to deliver attendees to he front door of the Civic Center. Parking is available at First Methodist and St. Mark’s parking lots. This service is being provided by Sun Travel. Booths will also be decorated. This year’s judges are Roy West Jr., Jim Love and Ericka Harris. The last 15 years of events were HUGE successes.
