Ten Del Papa Distributing Company employees and their families volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County in Beaumont on Saturday, Dec. 15. Afterward, the Gulf Coast beer distributor, which also recently partnered with Habitat for Humanity on projects near the company’s Texas City and Victoria locations, presented the organization with a $1,500 donation.
“It’s important to Del Papa that our company makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors,” said Mike Ferlet, vice president of Business Regulations & Industry Affairs. “Every year, but especially during the holiday season, our Beaumont-area employees are thrilled to put on their hard hats and build homes alongside dedicated Habitat for Humanity volunteers and partner families.”
The Del Papa Distributing volunteers assisted Habitat with caulking, constructing a back porch cover and installing siding and roof tin on houses. Through in-kind donations and free labor provided by local businesses like Del Papa Distributing Company, Habitat will sell these homes for an average of $65,000 at no interest through 20 year mortgages to families who have income levels between 30 and 60 percent of the area median.
Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County, formerly Beaumont Habitat for Humanity, was founded in 1978. Over the last 34 years, Habitat has provided quality, safe, affordable and energy-efficient homes to 112 families.
