The Muscular Dystrophy Association will be holding a Muscle Walk Saturday, March 2 at the Montagne Event Center at Lamar University in Beaumont. Registration begins at 8 a.m.
MDA Muscle Walk brings the community together to raise money to benefit local residents and families living with neuromuscular diseases, such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease).Money raised by walk participants and teams helps support local MDA health care services, educational outreach, and research to find treatments and cures for Southeast Texas residents living with and affected by these diseases.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association and more than 300 participants comprised of area MDA families, local businesses, and community organizations will participate in the event. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $100.
There are more than a million Americans affected by a neuromuscular disease. MDA is the world’s largest nonprofit health organization sponsoring research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases. MDA research grants currently are supporting more than 250 projects worldwide.
The Montagne Event Center is located at 4400 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway in Beaumont.
