One woman was injured when she accidentally dropped a camera case in which the gun was stored to the ground while unloading groceries at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
Police were dispatched to the home in the 1700 block of Dupont Dr. in Orange at approximately 6:59 p.m. According to the report filed by OPD Officer Joshua Dempsey stated that the woman told police she had a black camera case with a .25-caliber Titan handgun and a .22-caliber Dura-Matic handgun stored inside in the back seat of her vehicle. As she removed her grocery bags, the camera case fell to the ground. The .25-caliber Titan discharged and struck the woman in her front right leg between the knee and ankle.
A witness at the scene confirmed the victim’s report. The victim was transported to the St. Elizabeth Hospital emergency room, and the guns were taken into police custody for the time being. According to the police report, hospital staff later contacted officers to let them know a bullet fragment had been removed from the woman’s leg, and she was expected to make a full recovery.
