The Arc of Greater Beaumont will host their Stars of the Arc Celebrity Style Show and Annual Dinner on April 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn & Suites Beaumont Plaza. The evening highlight will be the presentation of six prestigious awards and the style show, where individuals with intellectual disabilities will get a chance to model some of spring fashions from Macy's Department Store.
The Arc Lifetime Achievement for Advocacy Award will be presented to Toye Babb. She received a BA in Psychology and Sociology and M.Ed. in counseling from Stephen F. Austin University. Toye has been a lifelong advocate for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities over the years working as the Genetics Clinic Coordinator at Beaumont State Center. She currently is the Spindletop Center Local Authority Service Coordination Director. Toye is an active board member of the Arc of Greater Beaumont and has served on numerous committees expressing her compassion to individuals with special needs. She is the proud mother of one son and is a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. .
Judge G.R. “Lupe” Flores will be honored with the Arc Excellence in Community Collaboration Award. The Arc gives this award to regional professionals who promote community collaboration to improve quality of life for all Southeast Texans, including citizens living with special needs. Judge Flores graduated from Lamar University and Georgetown University Law Center. He presided as a municipal judge for the city of Beaumont for 12 years and is currently serving as a Jefferson County Court at Law judge. He is a board member of the Jefferson County Bar Association and Salvation Army. Additionally, Judge Flores is a member of the Beaumont Rotary Club and Beaumont Public Schools Foundation. He and his wife, Nancy, are the parents of four children and he attends Cristo Rey Catholic Church.
Rebecca Alford and Brandon Pharris will receive the Arc Excellence in Leadership and Self-Advocacy Award. This award is given to honor Arc members who promote positive attitudes through exemplary leadership, service, and volunteerism with the Arc of Greater Beaumont. The Arc Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Cooks 2 Dozen Plus, Inc. for their continued dedication and loyal commitment to the Arc. AT&Twill receive the Arc Business Partnership Awardfor their abundant support and benevolence and for making a difference in the community.
Dinner tickets are priced at $75 for adults and $25 for children under ten. Sponsorship opportunities are available by calling the Arc office. The Arc recently relocated offices to the Foundation for Southeast Texas building located at 700 North Street, Suite Q in Beaumont.
