Lamar University will announce the recipient of its 2013 University Professor Award during a program Wednesday, April 10 in the University Reception Center on the eighth floor of the Mary and John Gray Library. A reception begins at 2 p.m., and the announcement and awards are scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
The title of University Professor – awarded for life in recognition of distinguished teaching – is the most prestigious faculty award given by the academic community of Lamar University.
The recipient will also become Lamar’s 2013-2014 Ann Die-Hasselmo Scholar, made possible by the creation and funding of the Lamar University Faculty Excellence Endowment by Hasselmo, a 1966 LU graduate. Hasselmo and her husband, Nils, will attend the ceremony.
Honored as Lamar’s 1986 Regents’ Professor, Hasslemo was a longtime faculty member whose career path took her to top university administrative positions and other roles devoted to strengthening academic leadership. The University Professor will be the second Hasselmo Scholar.
Lamar officials also will introduce Lamar’s 2013 Research Scholar, present University Merit Awards to four junior faculty members who have exhibited outstanding performance in the classroom and recognize 14 faculty members who have retired or will retire during the 2012-2013 academic year.
