Apparently, love knows no age limit and gets sweeter the longer it ripens. Bishop Horace Hall Sr., 90, of Beaumont, and Pastor Winnie LeBlanc, a 75-year-old native of Wells, were married Saturday, April 6, at Kingdom Connection Church in Beaumont.
The two pastors were family friends for more than 30 years but became involved in January.
“The only way we knew each other before was through Christ,” LeBlanc said.
Hall is a widower and LeBlanc is a widow.
“He’s not a stranger,” LeBlanc said. “It’s just that we never had any reason to connect. I knew his family and even his deceased wife.”
Hall said that his wife died in February 2011 and, oddly enough, LeBlanc’s husband also died in February, three years prior in 2008.
LeBlanc said that her husband, James Clarence LeBlanc Sr., was also a minister, and she took over as pastor at his church, Miracle Deliverance Tabernacle in Beaumont, when he died.
Hall is a bishop at United and Kingdom Work Ministries in Beaumont and pastored for more than 30 years at several churches in Southeast Texas, including Holy Tabernacle of God in Christ in Port Arthur and Faith Tabernacle in Beaumont.
Although the two are married, LeBlanc said they plan to stay members of separate churches.
“We share each other’s churches, but we’re not going to try to break pattern,” LeBlanc said. “As long as he’ll let me carry on my church and be there for me, that’s all I need.”
A World War II Army veteran, Hall fought in France, Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia for General Patton’s Third Army.
LeBlanc is the mother of two, grandmother of two, and great-grandmother of one.
Hall has an even larger family, many of whom were among the more than 100 in attendance at the couple’s wedding.
“God told me when I was a young minister that I had a church in my house,” Hall said. “I didn’t understand then, but when my wife died, she had 30 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.”
The couple said they had no plans to take a honeymoon.
