The Chevrolet Equinox rolls into 2013 with a new, more powerful 3.6L V-6 engine and other features that will help maintain its momentum as one of the most popular small crossovers.
Sales for the first eight months of 2012 were up 16.6 percent, building on sales of more than 193,000 in 2011.
With a starting MSRP of $24,155, the Equinox seats five and is available in LS, LT (1LT and 2LT trims) and LTZ models, with available all-wheel drive. When equipped with the standard Ecotec 2.4L direct-injected engine, the FWD Equinox achieves an EPA-estimated 32 mpg on the highway.
Additionally, the aforementioned 3.6L V-6 is available on LT and LTZ models and delivers best-in-class 301 horsepower and 272 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s 14 percent more horsepower and 22 percent more torque than the previous 3.0L V-6, with the same EPA-estimated fuel economy – including 24 mpg on the highway (FWD models).
Equinox wears Chevrolet’s signature global face. It features a two-tier grille and prominent gold bowtie insignia – that combines with strong fender shapes, distinctive premium roofline, wraparound headlamps and dual round taillamps. Equinox also stands out with a multi-dimensional hood and wheels-at-the-corners stance.
Additional exterior features include chrome trim and a range of 17-, 18- and 19-inch wheels.
Equinox’s interior is designed for comfort, convenience and versatility.
Family-friendly features abound and include several storage bins, an oversized glove box, a closed storage under the center armrest, four 12-volt power outlets and eight cup holders.
Additional interior features include standard air conditioning, with automatic climate control standard on 2LT and LTZ; standard leather-appointed seating on LTZ and available on 2LT; ice-blue ambient lighting that accentuates key areas of the cabin and provides an upscale look and feel; a range of standard and available audio systems, including a Pioneer Premium System with up to eight speakers and 250 watts of output and more.
As mentioned earlier, the 2013 Equinox comes with the standard Ecotec 2.4L engine or an available 3.6L V-6 engine.
The 2.4L engine produces 182 horsepower and 172 foot-pounds of torque. Average fuel economy ratings are 22 mpg city and 32 mpg highway for FWD and 20 mpg city and 29 mpg highway for AWD.
Additionally, the powerful 301 horsepower 3.6L engine averages fuel economy ratings of 17 mpg city and 24 mpg highway for FWD and 16 mpg and 23 mpg highway for AWD.
