Sheriff’s deputies and medical examiners are still working to identify a man who was found dead floating on the Neches River south of the Interstate 10 Purple Heart Memorial Bridge on Thursday, May 16, 2013.
According to a news release, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a local fisherman at approximately 8:15 p.m. May 16 regarding the discovery. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Marine Division located the body, and the deceased person’s remains were recovered with the assistance of the Beaumont Fire Department Dive Team.
The body was transported to the Jefferson County Morgue for an autopsy. The preliminary autopsy results indicate that the remains are those of a Hispanic male approximately 30 years of age and 5-feet-6 in height. JCSO Deputy Rod Carroll said the man’s body was in the water for one to two weeks. He said the body recently discovered on the Orange County side of the bridge was in the water much longer, and the two deaths are thought to be unrelated. Cause of death is still under determination pending final autopsy results.
Anyone with information of this individual is asked to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at (409) 835-8411.
