Beaumont police officers near Frint and Fannett Road observed a car speed by driving recklessly Sunday, April 11, at almost midnight. The driver turned onto Fannett Road and headed west as officers tried to catch up. The car then took a turn south on a private drive just outside the city limits.
The car drove to the end of the drive, out into a field filled with heavy vegetation, and into a nearby waterway. The passenger was able to make it safely to shore but the driver only made it out of the vehicle. His body was located a few hours later by Beaumont Fire and Rescue. The investigation is headed by both Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and the Beaumont Police Department.
