A man who was wearing only boxer shorts and boots was arrested for public intoxication in Orange on July 10.
According to the report from the Orange Police Department, 30-year-old Vernon Wayne Childress of Orange was arrested after police received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a man laying motionless on the side of the road in the 300 block of Knox Avenue at approximately 1:19 a.m. OPD Officer Jeffery Busby reported that when he arrived on the scene, he observed the man standing near the roadway in only blue boxer shorts and brown boots. Upon making contact with the subject, Busby reported observing the man to have "red glassy bloodshot eyes," his speech was slurred and he was swaying while standing. The man then reportedly took a few steps and almost fell over. The man refused to provide his name to the officer upon request, and Busby stated in the report he could smell the odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage. The man was taken into custody and later identified as Childress.
