Police chased an Orange resident through the woods Friday, Sept. 6, after she jumped from her third-floor hotel window and attempted to run from officers serving an arrest warrant.
OPD officer Brice Due reported that he and two fellow officers were dispatched to the Studio 6 hotel at 2502 N. Highway 62 in Orange in reference to a warrant service from Jefferson County on 31-year-old Brandi Berwick, who was believed to be staying at the hotel. According to the police report, officers confirmed with the manager that Berwick was in a room at the hotel. Officers, along with the manager, went to suspect's room and knocked. They received no response. After a short time, a concerned citizen approached the officers and reported seeing a woman jump from the third-floor window of the suspect's room.
Due said his fellow officers observed Berwick run into a nearby wooded area. The officers split up and found Berwick hiding in the woods. After a short foot chase, officer reportedly apprehended Berwick and arrested her.
Police noted in the report that the suspect was limping noticeably but refused medical attention. According to the report, once at the Orange County Correctional Facility refused to her admit Berwick without a medical examination. The suspect was taken to Baptist Hospital in Orange for treatment and then back to jail for booking.
