An 18-wheeler that overturned around noon Friday caused Port Arthur Police to close the portion of 73 east from State Highway 82 to U.S. Highway 69. The U.S. 69 South exit to 73 East is also closed, according to a press release by TxDOT.
Both may remain closed past 6 p.m. Friday evening, said TxDOT Public Information Officer Sarah Dupre.
"They are in the process of cleaning up more than 60 gallons of diesel," Dupre said.
Port Arthur Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Free said there was a three-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler that spilled diesel fuel.
"I think there were two (persons) transported," Free said. "I'm not sure of their condition."
Dupre suggests drivers take an alternate route.
