Nederland Police found a woman dead at her residence Friday afternoon, Sept. 20., in what police say appears to have been an accident.
Nederland Police Chief Darrell Bush said police are uncertain about the specifics of how the woman died but found her hanging by her shirt from the fence in her yard.
"She may have slipped and fallen and gotten her shirt caught up in the picket fence," Bush said.
"It's suspected that she strangled herself, but we really don't know," added Nederland Police Detective James West.
West said police received a call to check on the welfare of the 46-year-old resident of the 2900 block of Avenue G in Nederland and discovered her body around 12:50 p.m. Friday.
"(Police) found a deceased lady when they got there," West said. "Judge (Brad) Burnett came out and he's ordered an autopsy."
"Maybe the autopsy will tell us a little more," Bush said Monday, Sept. 23.
Both Bush and West said Nederland Police have identified the woman, but are not releasing her name yet.
Bush said there were no signs that it was a suicide but that the incident was still under investigation.
