Vidor police are currently investigating the death of a man discovered dead in a roadway at approximately 11:09 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, off South Street approximately one mile past the F.M. 1132 intersection.
Police reportedly received a call from someone who told them he had struck the male victim who was possibly already lying in the roadway. VPD Assistant Chief David Vandagriff said the driver of the vehicle who struck the man and who reported the incident has not been charged, and, as of yet, it is unclear if the victim had been hit by another vehicle or vehicles prior to being struck by the reporting party.
Vandagriff said VPD has received calls from citizens with information pertaining to the matter, and one caller told police the victim was seen earlier in the day hitchhiking. The investigation continues.
Judge Rodney Price pronounced the man dead at the scene. The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
