Police in Orange are investigating the death of 23-year-old Lacorius Desean Garrett of Orange who was last seen jumping into the water from a pier of the boat launch at the City of Orange Boat Ramp located on Simmons Drive sometime after midnight Friday, Oct. 11.
According to a news release from Orange Police Department, officers were dispatched at approximately 12:53 this morning in response to the call regarding the missing man, who witnesses told police jumped into the water but did not resurface. Emergency responders with OPD, the City of Orange Fire Department, the Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Emergency Service District #3's Fire Department and Dive Team searched for the man for several hours, until about 5 a.m., before finding his body in the Sabine River near the boat launch.
Garrett was transported to the Jefferson County Morgue for an autopsy. Police have video of the incident and witnesses. The investigation is ongoing, but police say foul play is not suspected.
