Police are still searching for the suspect or suspects responsible for the thefts of at least four car stereos on Christmas Eve at the Sunset Grove Apartments in Orange.
According to reports from the Orange Police Department, police dispatch received a call regarding one of the thefts at about 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 24. The victim told police he noticed his window had been knocked out of his 2003 Buick LeSabre and the Kenwood stereo had been removed from the vehicle. The radio was valued at approximately $400. Officers observed the right rear window of the car had been “punched out,” and the window was lying on the back seat.
While on scene investigating the first car burglary, officers were flagged down by a second victim. The victim reported that someone had broken the right front window of his 2008 Nissan Titan and removed the Pioneer stereo from the vehicle. The stereo was valued at $1000. Officers reportedly observed pry marks from some sort of tool on the left side of the window track, and the window was in the bed of the truck.
Still at the Sunset Grove Apartments, police received a call from dispatch about a third victim at the complex. The woman told police someone forced entry into her 1997 Crown Victoria and stole her Jensen stereo, valued at approximately $125. Again, police reported observing pry marks made by a flat tool on the window tracks. The car window was discovered about 15 yards southwest of the vehicle.
As the officers continued their investigation, they observed a 1991 Buick Park Avenue with an open trunk and cut wires from where stereo equipment appeared to have been. Officers left contact information for the vehicle owner and were later contacted by the man’s wife. She told police her husband was out of town, but she believed electronic equipment had been stolen from the car.
All victims expressed their desire to press charges once the suspect or suspects are located. Anyone with information regarding these crimes should call the Orange Police Department at (409) 883-1026.
