UPDATE: After looking at current conditions and polling a majority of the VFD chiefs, on February 3, 2014, Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick rescinded the burn ban that had been in place for the county, but he has the ban on the Commissioners Court agenda as a weekly topic should a ban need to be reinstated. According to a press release from Greg Fountain with the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management, grass and brush are dead but there appears to be plenty of moisture currently, and the rain forecast is in our favor.
Jefferson County has enacted a burn ban as of Wednesday, Jan. 22. Although the ground may be damp, the grass and brush are dead and dry, providing fuel for fires. All outdoor burning is prohibited.
