Pinehurst police are investigating the aggravated robbery of a Dollar General located at 2500 MLK Jr. Drive in Pinehurst that occurred on Saturday, March 8, at approximately 8:22 p.m., police report.
According to a news release from the Pinehurst PD, Officer K. Norton responded the call. Store employees stated two black male subjects entered the store and demanded money from him and another employee. One of the subjects displayed what appeared to be a silver handgun and pointed it at employees while demanding cash from the registers and safe. An unknown amount of U.S. Currency was taken before the two subjects fled the area on foot carrying a yellow, hand held Dollar General shopping basket.
This is the second time this Dollar General store has been robbed, the first time being on November 7, 2012. That robbery resulted in the arrest and indictment of a 59-year-old Orange man by the Pinehurst Police Department.
Chief Fred R. Hanauer III stated that this type of crime will not be tolerated and is reviewing store video in an attempt to identify the culprits.
Aggravated Robbery is a first degree felony and is punishable by 5 to 99 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Chief Hanauer urges anyone with information about this crime to contact the Pinehurst Police Department at (409) 886-2221 .
