Beaumont firefighters doused a local residential fire on Thursday, March 13, but not before the home suffered significant structural damage.
According to a news release from the Beaumont Fire Department, shortly after 1:30 p.m., Beaumont Fire Rescue dispatched multiple units to the area of Howell and Viking streets after receiving several calls reporting a house on fire but without a good address. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found the roof of the home in the 1300 block of Howell Street on fire. The blaze was difficult to extinguish and caused major damage to the roof structure of the home, BFD reports. No one was home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries.
Investigation of the scene determined the fire was caused by an individual using a torch to sweat a pipe joint in a wall. The fire traveled up the wall and into the attic space.
