AUSTIN – The Texas Education Agency announced today that Commissioner of Education Michael Williams will host a tele-town hall on Thursday, April 10, to hear specifically from community members about issues surrounding the Beaumont Independent School District.
Following a recent investigation into the district, Texas Education Agency staff recommended to the Commissioner the appointment of a board of managers and the lowering of the Beaumont ISD accreditation. The telephone-based town hall meeting is designed to allow Commissioner Williams to hear from members of the Beaumont community before he announces his final decision on any action against the district.
As part of the 90 minute tele-town hall, a designated phone number (and access code) has been established to allow a large number of community members to call, actively participate or just listen. Commissioner Williams will provide opening remarks, but allot the bulk of the town hall time for questions or comments.
Community members wishing to take part in the tele-town hall will need the following access information:
DATE: April 10, 2014
TIME: 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
CALL-IN NUMBER: (877) 228-2184
ACCESS CODE: 112668
Those wishing to speak directly with the Commissioner will be provided instructions during the tele-town hall on initiating that action. Please note that due to the anticipated number of participants, the Commissioner will not be able to address every question in the allotted time.
In addition to the scheduled tele-town hall, members of the Beaumont community can provide their thoughts or concerns via email at commissioner [at] tea [dot] state [dot] tx [dot] us.
