Nutty Jerry’s Entertainment Complex welcomes Grammy Award winning Christian artist MercyMe on Saturday, April 26 with doors opening at 7 p.m. Tickets to this all ages show are $75 (VIP front chairs), $50 (VIP front table seats), $40 (bleachers) and can be purchased at the venue, online at nuttyjerrys.com or by phone at (877) 643-7508.
The band is touring in support of their eighth studio album, Welcome to the New, which became the group’s seventh No. 1 album on the Billboard Christian chart and also rose to No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200. Seven songs of MercyMe have crossed over on Adult Contemporary and charted including “Hear With Me,” “Homesick,” “So Long Self," Finally Home,” and the popular “I Can Only Imagine.”
From the Dallas area, but now based in Nashville, singer Bart Millard says you don’t necessarily have to be a Christian music fan to enjoy their show. “We’ve had several songs that went to mainstream radio for us like ‘I Can Only Imagine,’” said Millard. “It’s the kind of song that I think gives people hope whether they profess to a Christian world view or not. I think we all understand what it’s like to lose somebody and that song gives them hope. If we are making music people enjoy at the same time, then by all means come out. But when that song crossed over, people respected the fact we were who we were. We had no reason to change things. We are still honest how we write and I think people appreciate that.”
Millard added the new album was directly influenced by life experiences. “Over the last few years, we’ve gone through some things,” said Millard. “We came to a point whether or not we wanted to keep doing MercyMe. This record is a discovery of our identity. If we’ve never done a concept record before, this is it. Every song, front to back, touches on that.”
Earlier this week, MercyMe performed live on NBC’s Today Show.
