The Texas Education Agency has set the date and time for the Beaumont ISD record review, according to DeEtta Culbertson of the TEA Division of Communications.
The record review will take place Thursday, July 10, in Room 1-111 in the William B. Travis Building on Congress Avenue in Austin. It is scheduled from 2-3 p.m., Culbertson said in a press release.
TEA Deputy Commissioner Michael Berry will conduct the record review and issue a final ruling.
Culbertson added that Commissioner Michael Williams has seen the reports regarding a potential $300,000 being spent on additional legal fees by the district. These reports trouble him, the press release said, especially in light of the district’s current financial situation. Williams hopes the BISD Board of Trustees will make decisions that are in the best interest of students and the district, as well as the community.
In a letter to BISD Board of Trustees President Gwen Ambres and Superintendent Timothy Chargois, Commissioner Williams called this a "supplementary record review" to consider whether to appoint a Board of Managers at BISD. A record review earlier this month affirmed the state agency's move to appoint a conservator at BISD and assign the district a accreditation status of "Accredited – Probation."
A temporary restraining order that has since expired prevented the first record review from considering the Board of Managers question.
