The Beaumont Police Department reports major flooding throughout the city this morning, July 18.
Warning from BPD:
Due to heavy rains, motorists will encounter numerous obstacles and hazards while driving today in the city of Beaumont.
All underpasses within the city of Beaumont have standing water making them not passable. Specifically the following:
11th @ Hollywood
4th @ Cedar
Irving at Washington
All underpasses along M.L.K.
All downtown underpasses
Many streets, including major thoroughfares, throughout the city are not passable due to flooding.
Specifically the following:
All service roads along Eastex Freeway
All service roads along I-10
Parts of College Street
We have responded to rescue several motorists who were stranded in high water. We were able to rescue several motorists who were trapped in their vehicles in high water at the College and M.L.K. underpass, the M.L.K. @ Pennsylvania underpass, and the intersection of 11th @ Washington Street.
If possible, avoid driving while these conditions continue. Avoid any low-lying areas and underpasses. Intersections will be extremely problematic and prone to flooding as long as the rain continues.
DO NOT DRIVE INTO STANDING WATER, ESPECIALLY IN LOW LYING AREAS, AS YOUR VEHICLE MAY STALL AND LEAVE YOU TRAPPED IN FLOOD WATER.
