In honor of Elder Abuse Prevention Month, Jefferson County Adult Protective Services will hold the second annual Making Strides Against Elder Abuse Walk-a-thon on Friday, May 6.
Neglect of the elderly and people with disabilities wear many faces and so do the forces that help. APS reports that tips concerning elder abuse comes from many various sources like a caring neighbor or a loving family member. Unfortunately, an increasing number of vulnerable adults go unnoticed. During the walk-a-thon, the focus will be offering hope to those living with abuse, celebrating those who have survived abuse and raising awareness about elder abuse, neglect and financial exploitation.
The walk will start at downtown Beaumont at the APS office at 10 a.m. and proceed to the Beaumont Police Department for a brief press conference, then back to the APS office.
