Beaumont police officers are searching for the driver of car that struck and killed a man in a hit-and-run auto-pedestrian accident early Tuesday morning, May 24.
When officers arrived, they found a bicyclist, identified as 63-year-old Claud Barkley Perry of Beaumont, dead at the scene. The traffic unit, who performed the investigation, was told by witnesses that Perry had been struck by a green Ford F-250 traveling east on Folsom. The driver collided with the rear of the bicycle and knocked Perry to the ground. He then got out of the vehicle to check on Perry, as did another witness, when a white or light-colored car, possibly a four-door Honda, came through the intersection and struck Perry, dragging him several feet.
A black female driver got out of the car, looked at Perry, then got back into the vehicle and fled north on Treadway.Witnesses reported there was also a black female passenger in the car at the time, and also that Perry was alive prior to being ran over by the car.
