City of Orange Deputy Fire Chief/EMC Jerry Ziller said the city’s fire marshal is looking for tips as to what or who started a blaze in the 300 block of Schley that consumed a vacant home.
According to Ziller, the city of Orange Fire Department responded to the report of a house fire Saturday morning, Nov. 5, at approximately 8 a.m. The Orange Police Department had reported the fire after the PD received a report from a pedestrian that a house was burning. Orange Police reported the house was fully engulfed in flame before the fire crews arrived.
“First arriving crews determined that the house was vacant and started extinguishing the fire,” Ziller noted. “The structure had three apartments and was very large. Fire crews required two fire engines to protect the surrounding structures and extinguish the fire. The city of Pinehurst Fire Department was put on stand-by to respond to other emergencies within Orange while Orange fire units were working on Schley.”
Ziller added that the cause of the fire is suspicious because the structure was vacant with no utilities. Anyone with information about the fire is urged to contact the Orange Fire Marshal’s office at (409) 988-7360. No injuries were reported and crews remained on the scene about three hours to insure all the fire was extinguished.
