Jolly good fun … Last Thursday evening the lights were atwinkle and presents were under the tree at the Santa’s Elves Third Annual Party held at the magnificent manse of Michele and Mitchell Smith. Once again, chairs Camille and Chris Ohmstede along with this year’s co-chairs Sharon and Scott Parker played host to the generous and giving group that attended this year’s event benefiting pediatric bone cancer research at the Children’s Cancer Hospital at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Kudos to Santa’s helpers Monica and Jimmy Broussard, Ashley and Tab Bryan, Gina and Colby Crenshaw, Stephanie and Bernie Daleo, Tanya and Paul Henderson, Shawn and Robert Hickman, Gillian and Will Jenkins, Dynasy and Lan Phelan, Nicole and Jeremy Saba, Odile and Marco Silva, Bonnie and Rob Tortorice, Emily and Chris Miller, Celia and Craig Messer, Shari and Sam Marchand, Keely and Craig Kinsel, and Jenny and Jay Tortorice. Mister mixer … Last week Uliana Trylowsky with Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County introduced the Mr. Habitat 2012 contestants who will once again compete for the highly enviable title of Mr. Habitat on Feb. 25. The contestants vying for the golden hardhat and hammer are Roy West, Charlie Dixon,Aaron Plaunty,Chad Hammett,Blue Broussard,Art Simpson,Derek Akins,Trey Ricks,Virgilio Davis, as well as one of the past winners Bryan Denison, who shared some secrets of success and tips for making a stud-like performance with the new hunks of the 2012 Mr. Habitat contest!
Degrees of giving … Barbara and Alan McNeill have established the Marie E. Gordon Presidential Scholarship in Nursing at Lamar University to honor the memory of Barbara’s mother, a multi-talented woman whose dreams of becoming a nurse were interrupted by the Great Depression. Instead, Gordon devoted more than 30 years to serving as a volunteer at Baptist Hospital, assisting and appreciating the important work of the nurses employed in the facility. The McNeil’s established the scholarship in the Lamar University Foundation, which will award it annually to an undergraduate student in the JoAnne Gay Dishman Department of Nursing
