Officers from the Beaumont Police Department responded to the 1700 block of Wall Street on Friday morning, Jan. 20, on reports that a victim was shot in the area.
Patrol Division Officers arrived to the location to find a 49-year-old Hispanic male victim suffering from a superficial gunshot wound to the left side of his neck. Officers summoned Beaumont EMS, who responded and transported the victim to St. Elizabeth Hospital. The victim was ultimately treated and released from the emergency room.
According to information from the BPD, a language barrier is limiting the information officers have been able to obtain from the victim. Officers were able to determine the victim was at home at the time of the assault; heard a knock on his door and when he opened it, was confronted by possibly two suspects. The victim stated he quickly closed the door and as he did, a shot was fired from outside the door. The bullet entered and exited the door and struck the victim.
The only description of the suspects given by the victim was it was two black males, one wearing something over his face. Detectives have scheduled follow-up interviews with witnesses. When the suspects are identified, reports Officer Rob Flores of the BPD, they will be charged with aggravated assault, a first-degree felony.
