Community-minded … Sandra Ellington, president of Communities In Schools Southeast Texas, welcomed a capacity crowd at the CISSET annual black tie event this past Friday evening, Jan. 20. Featured speaker Bill Milliken, founder and vice chairman of Communities In Schools Inc., is one of the nation’s foremost pioneers in the movement to give young people the help they need to graduate from high school and go on to lead rewarding lives. Cal Rutherford is the driving force behind the founding of CISSET, and in recognizing this outstanding gentleman, Karen Newton, CISSET executive director, praised his ongoing support over the past 21 years and his assistance in attaining 100 percent participation by the Port Arthur ISD this year. Past board members Evelyn Lord, Carl Griffith, Charles Turco and Montie Morgan along with community leaders and supporters Gwen and Robert Reckwithrow, Jolynne Morgan, Iva and Kent Houp, Brittany Aleman, Cheryl Harper, Ramona Bragg, Gery Whitley, Shannon and Red Allen, Denise and Michael Truncale, Doreen Badeaux, Sinclair Oubre, Peggy and Tom Henderson, Jean Milken, Verna Rutherford, Sheri and Eddie Arnold, Audrey Thomas, Carolyn and Bubba Martin, Dianne and Kenneth Marks, Christy and Herlin Romar were in the mix to paid tribute to such a deserving honoree.
Frolicking for fashion … Ladies who lunch and shop ’til they drop were thrilled with the Baptist Hospital Fashion Fleet fundraiser that started with cocktails and tiny bits at Goodfella’s both Friday and Saturday evening. Armed with their creative Fashion Week hot pink and black shopping bags, these industrious darlings stepped inside the waiting limos or chauffeured vehicles for a fab night of fashion finds. Discovering wonderful new fits were Gillian Jenkins, Stephanie Daleo, Ashley Bryan, Melissa Edwards, Lynda Moncla, Amy Chance, Traci Gonzales, Ashley Jackson, Sarah Adams, Kara Mansfield, Alecia Vigil, Kellen Shaw, Jade Rayburn, Vivian Chan, Barbara Stuberfield, Cathi Burbank, Sheree Pruett, Leslie Carmona, Doreen Borel, Deborah Freeman and Cassandra Corona as they all did the fashion crawl through Jackie’s, YaYa, Gaudie & Co, Reign, Talbot’s, Push & Co, Bella Bella and BBS Collection. What great fun for the gals who love to find a bargain or a fantastic find!
News of I do’s … Lauren Beaver and Wilson Hawa exchanged wedding vows at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church this past Saturday evening and then headed to the Beaumont Country Club for a enchanted reception for an evening filled with love and frivolity. Proud parents D’awn and Jeff Beaver, and Kathy and John Hawa, as well as family members Katie and Jeff Beaver Jr., Heather and Bobby Beaver, Joseph Beaver, John Beaver, Allison Hawa and Christopher Hawa are thrilled about the marriage merger. Guests dined on a gourmet meal prepared by Debbie Bando-Duit and country club staff and danced the night away to the sounds of Grady Gaines.
