Texas Rage in the Cage Amateur Association presents Cage Rage 11 on Saturday, March 5, at Ford Arena. Tickets are still available for $45 and $27, and doors will open at 7 p.m.
Ten amateur fights are scheduled including the main event with Jordan Morgan of Beaumont fighting Josh Quayhagen of Lake Charles for the 155-pound TRCAA title.The IXFA, based in Houston, will hold a night of professional MMA fights on Saturday, April 23, at Nutty Jerry’s Entertainment Complex in Winnie. Tickets are $125, $100, $55, $45, $25 and $10.
Making a special guest appearance that evening though not fighting will be former light heavyweight champion and UFC Hall of Fame fighter “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell.“UFC on Versus 3” will air live at 7 p.m. on the Versus Network. The event will be held at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville.
Four matches are scheduled to be televised and the main is event is Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann (17-4) vs. “Nightmare” Diego Sanchez (22-4). Kampann is coming off a tough split decision loss to Jake Shields at UFC 121 in October. Shields (26-4), coincidently, is fighting Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title on April 29.
Sanchez last fought on the same undercard at UFC 121, but he defeated Paulo Thiago via unanimous decision.
Other fights include “The Doberman” C.B. Dollaway (11-2) vs. Mark “The Philippine Wrecking Machine” Munoz (9-2); Alessio “Legionarius” Sakara (15-7) vs. Chris Weidman (4-0), who will make his UFC debut; and former WEC veterans Brian Bowles (8-1) and “The Angel of Death” Damacio Page (15-5) will go at it. Bowles defeated Page back in 2008 by submission (guillotine choke).
The UFC continues to gain more popularity on Facebook as it will show two undercard fights live at 6 p.m. on the Web site. Those fights are Danny “Lights Out” Castillo (10-3) vs. Joe “Daddy” Stevenson (31-12) and Cyrille “Snake” Diabate (16-7-1) vs. “The Robot” Steve Cantwell (7-3).
Not to be outdone, Strikeforce has a very good card scheduled for March 5 on Showtime at 9 p.m. The event will be held at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Two title fights are scheduled including Dan “Hendo” Henderson (26-8) vs. Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante (10-2) for Cavalcante’s light heavyweight title and Marloes “Rumina” Coenen (18-4) defends her women’s welterweight title against Liz “Girl-Rilla” Carmouche (6-0).
Two other fights will be televised with Tim Kennedy (12-3) vs. Melvin Manhoef (24-8-1) and Billy Evangelista (11-0-1) vs. Jorge Masvidal (20-6).
Once last bit of Strikeforce news, fighter Paul “Semtex” Daley (27-9-2), who was fired from the UFC after sucker-punching Josh Koscheck during the post fight decision announcement at UFC 113 last May, is back on track and will get a welterweight title shot against champion Nick Diaz (24-7) on April 9. The fight will be shown live on Showtime.
Pro wrestlingThe cast of the 12th season of “Dancing with the Stars” was announced and former WWE wrestler Chris Jericho will be one of the 11 contestants and be teamed with dance partner Cheryl Burke.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward will dance with Kym Johnson and boxing legend “Sugar” Ray Leonard will dance with Anna Trebunskaya.
The remaining contestants are Disney actress Chelsea Kane (with partner Mark Ballas), Playboy model and reality star Kendra Wilkinson (with Louis van Amstel), actress Kirstie Alley (with Maksim Chmerkovskiy), radio talk show host “Psycho” Mike Catherwood (with Lacey Schwimmer), supermodel Petra Němcová (with Dmitry Chaplin), actor Ralph Macchio (with Karina Smirnoff), actor and rapper Romeo (with Chelsie Hightower) and television and radio talk show host Wendy Williams (with Tony Dovolani).The season begins March 21 on ABC.
