Monday, March 19, is an important day in Southeast Texas for all those concerned about the welfare of the boys and girls who live in the area. The Tom Mulvaney Golf Tournament is on tap beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. at the Beaumont County Club. The event is a prime fundraiser for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for children) and depends on this fun-filled day to help meet the many needs of an ever-expanding population.
“Judge Mulvaney saw the possibilities in everyone,” said Randi King, Family Law Division chief, Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office. “Though wise enough to know how a case would likely end, he offered sincere encouragement to CASA’s children and their parents, never giving up hope. Judge Mulvaney had dreams for the future of children in CPS care that a parent would have for his own children. His positive attitude was a blessing to us all.”
Carina Kirk, advocate for children’s rights and co-chair of the tournament, said, “This golf tournament not only honors a man deeply involved in the lives of children in foster care, but raises awareness and much needed funds in an effort to continue providing the services these precious children deserve in the pursuit of safe, permanent homes.”
Judge Lupe Flores will prepare breakfast, and prizes will be awarded for first, fifth and 10th places, along with a putting contest winner and an award for the longest drive. There will also be an award for closest to the hole and sweet spot. Hole-in-one sponsor is Kinsel Toyota. Complimentary lunch, snacks and beverages provided to all players.
Individual player fee is $125, and a four-person team is $500. Sponsorship opportunities range from $500 to $5,000. For more information, visit the Web site at www.casasetx.org or call CASA at (409) 832-CASA.
