After a brief executive session Monday evening, the Beaumont Independent School District Board of Trustees decided upon Timothy Chargois as the future superintendent of the district - replacing outgoing superintendent Carrol Thomas.
Chargois is currently employed within the district and was one of two internal candidates the board interviewed to be Thomas' replacement. Chargois serves as assistant superintendent of research/evaluation, planning and technology but will take over the district when Thomas retires.
The other candidate, Shirley Bonton, is deputy superintendent of the district and was the other candidate to apply for the job. After lengthy interviews, Chargois was the board's unanimous pick. Board members decided to search within the district rather than seek outside applicants.
