Lamar University athletic director Larry Tidwell announced that Steve Roccaforte will not be retained as head men's basketball coach at a press conference held Monday afternoon at the Montange Center.
"Steve Roccaforte has been relieved of his duties as head men's basketball coach for Lamar University," said Tidwell. "We will begin a national search for a coach and have a time table set after the Final Four (April 4). This was a decision not made easily, trust me. After a thorough evaluation with this season and his tenure, it deemed it necessary for a change."
In his fifth season, Roccaforte compiled a 76-87 overall record, which included a 39-41 mark in Southland Conference play. The Cards missed out on the SLC Tournament for a third consecutive season with a 7-9 record, 13-17 overall.
