Highlights of the NRF … After King Neches LXIV Bill Benning arrived at the dock of the Beaumont Country Club and James McNicholas was named NRF Citizen of the Year at the MCM Eleganté, the Knights of the Neches hosted their third Knights Stag party chaired by Bernie Daleo. Enjoying the casino games, raffles and auction were Greg Austin,Roy Steinhagen,Will Leonard,Jordan Reese,Russ Waddill,Craig Messer,Mike Gilbert,Northcott McFaddin,Doug Fierce,Greg Zummo,Ted Harp,Kyle Hayes and Clark Winslow.
Meanwhile ... 2012 NRF princesses and their escorts began arriving at events for the festival. The Beaumont Country Club feted its princess, Lauren Dowdy, with a traditional tea attended by the other princesses. The Symphony League of Beaumont hosted a pool party to honor its princesses Beth Broussard,Leah Carroll,Caroline Clark,Annie Forman,Hannah Grace Heartfield,AmieAnn LaMendola and Helen Elizabeth Old. Enjoying the view and delicious edibles by chair Brenda McMakin were escorts Dane Steinhagen,William Lighty,Bryce Boyette,Devonte Williams,Sam Lombardo,Connor Roane,Brant Burns,Emory Cothen and several others. This past Friday evening, Elizabeth Waddill and Kathy Fisher chaired the always entertaining NRF Get Acquainted Party on stage at the Jefferson Theater. Dressed in creative toga outfits were Chris Scheurich,Caroline Fluke,Grady Talbot,Alyssa Henke,Richard Scott,Molly Anderson,Caroline Hall,Curtis Leister,Anna Hubbell,Dylan Clay,Marli Pieternelle,Britney Gaines,Stephens Garrett and Jazmine Lewis, to name a few. Winning the contests for different costume categories were: best Grecian footwear, Katy Waddell; most original outfits, Phoebe Hambright and Connor Roane; least amount of toga fabric, Adonis Bateaste; most authentic, Brantley Wilson; best Zeus, Dane Steinhagen; best goddess interpretation, Annie Forman;and Santorini meets Beaumont, Brody Fierce.
Upstairs in the Jefferson, Gillian Jenkins chaired a very sophisticated Premier Party for the parents of the duchesses and other NRF contingent. Among them were Kim Phelan,Emily and Chris Miller,Leslie and Bill Wilson,Delores and Roland Respess,Nancy and David Fertitta and too many more to mention. After the princesses, duchesses and their escorts completed practice Saturday morning for the NRF Coronation, Queen Neches LXIII Laura Broussard and her parents Chris and Martin Broussard hosted a very clever luncheon for the court on the grounds of the Julie Rogers Theatre. Moz Burgers were grilled and served by Dwight Moore along with delicious cupcakes by Kelly Patrizi. The naming of the queen and her court took place Saturday evening as social chairs Rachael Roane and Heather Petkovsek along with NRF President Doug McMakin (who all did a fantastic job coordinating this year’s festival) stood by. Master of ceremonies Bill Leger named the Grand Duchess Jacqueline Hirschfield, then third lady-in-waiting Gabriella Oxford was named, followed by Marli Pieternelle as second lady-in-waiting and then Helen Elizabeth Old as first lady-in-waiting. Finally Queen Neches XLIV Beth Broussard was announced and crowned by King Neches LXIV Bill Benning. As delighted parents, family and guests along with the NRF royalty court made their way to the Beaumont Civic Center, they were thrilled with the beautiful transformation of the contemporary glass tables and ghost chairs created by the talented chair of the ball Camille Ohmstede. Dancing way into the evening, this year’s court had an incredible time celebrating the NRF festival. Sunday morning, Elizabeth and John Miller served an outstanding brunch to the royal court and their families. Another fantastic festival that celebrates our river and the wonderful youths of our fair city!
Inter-faith celebration … Temple Emanuel will host its Community Inter-faith Shabbat Celebration at 6 p.m. on Friday with a reception to follow. This is part of the wonderful Love Thy Neighbor program and includes “The Freedom Music Project” on Saturday, May 5, at 7:30 p.m. A $10 per person offering is kindly requested.
Run for the Roses Party … Saturday afternoon, May 5, Beaumont Community Players will honor Evelyn Lord,Rosine Wilson,Sallye Keith and Betty Greenberg with a Kentucky Derby Party.
