The name may have changed but the fun and excitement will remain the same. Once called the Texas Cajun Heritage Festival has now been renamed the Spring Music Fest and 2012 Fishing Classic, which will be held at 700 Simmons Drive in Orange near the City Boat Ramp.
“This is our seventh year with this fantastic event,” said Darlene Zavada, director of the Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We wanted to broaden the range of the festival and all the musical performers.”
The Spring Music Fest will be held on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. The festival will feature plenty of vendors selling all your favorite goodies along with crafters and several artists will be on hand displaying some of their masterpieces.
“The Convention and Visitors Bureau for the City of Orange is funding the event that is free to the public,” said Zavada. “It’s a family oriented event, where you get to be outside, enjoy good music, eat great food all in a pleasant atmosphere.”
Opening the music portion of the event at 9 a.m. will be William Gragg and Friends, which is a local religious band from Beaumont.
Following that performance at 11 a.m. is the David Joel Band of Beaumont. The band’s sound is best described as Texas Bayside Country with Joel’s influences being the likes of Otis Redding, James Taylor and Jimmy Buffett.
Popular local group Britt Godwin and B.B. & Company will then take the stage at 1 p.m. Godwin, a Bridge City native, has been performing for more than 30 years and toured with Tracy Byrd for over a decade. B.B. & Company is a six-piece country band that mixes in classic country with new tunes.
“We didn’t take away all the Cajun influence,” said Zavada. “Closing Spring Music Fest will be two very good Cajun acts.”
Cajun Cookin’ will perform from 3-4:30 p.m. and headlining will be High Performance with Steve Riley from Lafayette, La., at 5 p.m.
There will also be plenty of children’s activities including games, bounce houses, a petting zoo and much more.
Also scheduled is the two-day “Do It in Orange” fishing tournament at the City Boat Ramp with $20,000 in guaranteed prize money on May 19-20. Information about fishing tournament can be obtained by calling (409) 883-3536.
“Bring your lawn chairs and just sit back and enjoy the day,” added Zavada.
