Eric McGowen, wanted for fleeing from his trial in Liberty County on charges of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl, has been arrested by a team of law enforcement officers led by the U.S. Marshals in Houston, according to a press release from the agency.
McGowen, 20, was sought on a bench warrant issued in Liberty after fleeing his trial Aug. 29. McGowen, along with 19 others, was standing trial for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old child in late 2010 in Cleveland, Texas. On Aug. 30, McGowen was convicted of the crime and received a sentence of 99 years.
After a weeklong investigation, U.S. Marshals developed information placing McGowen at an apartment in Pinelake Village in Houston. McGowen was found in the apartment, taken into custody and transported to the Liberty County Jail without incident.
