The United Way held a campaign kickoff luncheon Thursday, Sept. 13, to begin this year’s fundraising efforts. Those who attended the kickoff were treated to a big, rich gumbo from Big Rich Courville’s Catering’s.
According to Karyn Hawkins, president and CEO of United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County, it is the time of year for people in the community who are interested in helping United Way to start their fundraising campaigns.
“This is the beginning of our annual campaign,” Hawkins said. “We have been doing this for 60 years, since 1952. We gather money raised and distribute the funds throughout the community. It helps various programs throughout the area, like the American Red Cross, the Southeast Texas Food Bank, the Arc of Greater Beaumont, Nutrition and Services for Seniors and more. The full list is on our Web site at www.umbmt.org .”
Hawkins said anyone who wants to raise funds or contribute can call the Beaumont United Way at (409) 835-4575.
