Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick welcomed courthouse staff, county commissioners and the community to the annual Christmas tree lighting in the lobby of the new courthouse addition in Beaumont at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26. Branick thanked the Ozen High School choir for providing music for the festive event. The choir sang songs like “Carol of the Bells” and asked that those gathered sing along with them to “Deck the Halls” and other Christmas favorites. Attendees were treated to cookies and punch, coffee or hot apple cider. Two-and-half-year-old Sophia Simon, daughter of James and Lacey Simon of Beaumont, performed the tree-lighting honors, flipping the switch and illuminating the huge Christmas pine reaching up toward the second story of the building. The tree can be viewed at the courthouse through the duration of the holiday season.
