Officers from the Orange Police Department Narcotics Division, the Pinehurst Police Department and the Orange County Pct. 2 Constable’s Office executed a search warrant at 2309 Riverside Dr. in Orange, only to be met with gunfire, according to reports from the OPD.
Information from the agency states that, upon officers knocking on the door and announcing their presence, someone inside of the residence fired a shot at the officers. No police personnel was injured, though, as the fired round lodged in the door frame. Officers “forcibly” entered the residence, which was fortified with iron security bars on the doors and windows, and subsequently arrested two subjects without further incident.
During the search, officers discovered crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana, pills, stolen property and two semi-automatic pistols - one of which was determined to be the one used to fire at the officers. In addition, officers seized a digital scale, baggies and assorted paraphernalia used for the distribution of drugs, a report from OPD detailed. The occupants of the residence, 34-year-old David Glen Mays and 28-year-old Tiffany Thompkins were charged with a variety of offenses, including attempted capital murder and possession of a controlled substance.
